Version 0.3

War Kitty

This is the first release of the new version of OpenPhotoBooth. It works for me ™ but your milage may vary. Please don't hesitate to send in bug reports or ask for help.

Windows

Two methods to install: the easy way or the slightly less easy but much more flexible way.

The Easy Way

The easy way is to try the Windows installer (tested on Windows XP SP3 only) and hope that works for you.

Download Windows Installer (~15 Mb)

The Slightly Less Easy but Much More Flexible Way

Running from source is more flexible, especially if you know what you are doing. However, it is more complicated to set up, and I don't have any advice for you at this time.

Mac/Linux

This version has been tested on Linux (Debian sid). The camera integration is light in Linux and the capture drivers for my camera are poor compared to XP. But it does work.

I have had no testing on Apple products, but would appreciate any information anyone can give me. In theory it should run fine, but I don't know for sure.

With either system, you will have to run from source.

How to use it! (The Abridged Version)

You can see a longer, hopefully better How-To at http://wiki.github.com/jmhobbs/OpenPhotoBooth/how-to

Once you have it downloaded/installed you will want to start the GUI. On Windows that is "opb_gui.exe", on other platforms that is "python opb_gui.py".

It may take a moment to start up, but once is does all you need to do is click the "Start" button. This should run for a second and then you are good to go.

Now, open a browser (we like Chrome's full screen mode) and visit http://localhost:8080/. This is the web server running on your computer.

You may have to enable web-cam access from flash, but eventually you should get to a screen with your web-cam feed visible in the center. Click on the white area of the page and then hit "c" (which stands for capture).

This should start a count down and take your picture four times.

Once it is done, look in the installation directory for the static folder, and the photos folder. This is where your snapshots are.
